Receiving Cancer Treatment in Your Home

Cancer Therapy in Pill Form

Advances in technology have led to the development of oral anti-cancer medications also referred to as, “oral oncolytics”. These new agents target specific biologic processes in tumor cells. Oral oncolytics provide patients a convenient way to receive therapy at home, without coming to the clinic for an infusion. Cancer therapy in pill form is great news for patients. It allows more involvement and control over your treatment.

Oncology Hematology Associates (OHA) located in Springfield and Monett, Missouri, dispenses oral oncolytics and supportive medicines that are part of your treatment plan, such as antiemetics (for nausea/vomiting) and antibiotics. Unlike your local pharmacy, our Medically Integrated Pharmacy dispenses only to our patients. The first time you receive a newly-prescribed drug from our dispensary, an OHA oncology certified nurse will visit with you about how and when to take the medication along with information on side effect management. You can ask questions and be confident that you will get clarification on anything you do not understand. If your prescription(s) has refills, you can request it by calling our clinic or through logging into our patient portal at http://www.carespaceportal.com. Please understand that we do not provide prescription refills on the weekend.
